Back in September, Tri Energy took on Teme Leisure in a friendly (but secretly oh so serious) inter club relay!! The two clubs put out a number of teams of 4 who each swam 100m, biked 10km, and ran 1 mile. Teme Leisure took the victory back in September, so this weekend – on a beautiful sunny day in March – Tri Energy were after revenge and looking to top the podium, but this time also with competition from 3 teams from Tewkesbury Tri Club!
The inter club event was set in the stunning grounds of Abberley Hall School, and we were also joined by Barista Buggy….sunshine, triathlon and coffee…..what more could you want!
Teams started in different waves and when the first wave set off at 10am, you could tell we were in for some fun racing! The pool was super choppy as each team tried to edge the lead early on. The fourth swimmer in each team had the leg-burning task of a 200m uphill run to transition to pass over to their first cyclist.
The bike leg certainly separated the boys from the men!! Hilly is an understatement!!! The most interesting part of the day was perhaps seeing what everyone’s first words were once they returned off the bike, far more sweaty and red-faced than when they left!! A massive shout out to a huge number of new triathletes who took on this bike course….and conquered it! It wasn’t easy, but they did it! Another shout out also to any teams who were a man down which meant individuals had to do the bike leg more than once!!
To round up the event was a 1 mile run which was 2 short loops around a beautiful footpath and back up past the clock tower. 1 mile sounds easy….until you actually run it flat out on a a loop that was perhaps a lot tougher than you anticipated!
Once the final runner from each team was due to finish, they collected their 3 other team mates on route, and crossed the finish line together….camaraderie, banter and team spirit at it’s highest – that’s what it’s all about!
A huge thanks also to all of our marshals who gave up their day to make this happen, and to Claire and Holly for taking photos – we’re looking forward to seeing them all!
It was Teme Leisure who topped the podium spot once again with a great battle from Tewkesbury Tri Club. Apologies to the one team we didn’t get a finish time for….you must have been so fast we missed you (the offer still stands for you to re-do the whole event 😉 )! Tri Energy are now in hard core training to bring their A Game to the next rematch…. but until then thanks to everyone who came along and supported the event. Super good fun, hard training and a beautiful Tri course in the sunshine! Results below…
