Go Tri Duathlon Series Race 3 – Results

The weather for the third and final race of our series was very similar to the first one…wet, drizzly and grey! But that didn’t dampen the competitor’s spirits and we saw a great night of racing, welcoming some newbies and seeing some returning athletes back to beat their times!

Our youngest competitors started the racing with Rory, Jenson, Lilly-May and Annabel all racing hard in tough conditions to cross the line having given it their all! Well done to the 4 of them! They were soon followed by a super small field of just 2 juniors in the 11-14 year old race where Aimee Lane crossed the line first (also winning the series for the females), and soon after Jacob Amies crossed the line taking the series win for the boys. Well done to both of them!

The adults event proved for some exciting racing with winner of race 1 (Joe Dyer) now back on the start line as well as winner of event 2, Brett Fox! It was Brett who took an early lead with Rhys Jones, Joe Dyer, Craig Collins, Tom Broadway and Dave Bullock not far behind. It was an excellent bike leg from Brett that meant he managed to extend his lead and set a new course record of 24:46. Rhys Jones, with his leg heavily bandaged from a cycling accident the week before, showed great strength finishing second and Joe had a great finish to cross the line third. This meant that Brett also took the series win, with Dave Bullock second and Craig Collier third in the series.

The ladies event saw newcomer Emily Newcombe take the win in a very impressive 30:16 with Lorna Broadway close behind in second and Rachel O’Bryan, also a newcomer, in third. Well done to all three of them, particularly Lorna who missed race 2 due to a broken elbow, it was great to see her back on the start line! Just outside of a podium position in 4th place was Faye Hopkins but this result was good enough to give her the series win which is thoroughly deserved after 3 consistent races. Second in the series was  Kara Tranter and third was Diane Boros.

Male Series Winners:

First – Brett Fox

Second – Dave Bullock

Third – Craig Collier

Female Series Winners:

First – Faye Hopkins

Second – Kara Trainer

Third – Diane Boros

There were also some phenomenal achievements outside of the medal positions. There are often battles within battles; we had people completing their FIRST EVER multisport event (well done!) sprint finishes throughout the field, people clipped into their pedals for the first time and so on. Our biggest cheer of the day perhaps went to Claire Stannett, Katie Ivins and Rachel James who seemed to be having a jolly good time the whole way round!!!

Whatever people’s goals, we’re just so grateful you came along to support the event and we hope it has inspired you to keep going on your own personal journeys!

That’s it for our 2017 summer duathlon series! We’ll be back in 2018 so keep training hard; in the mean time if you’d like to keep in touch with other exciting things we have going on keep an eye on our Facebook Page or sign up to our FREE to join triathlon team here.
