Athlete of the Month (May) ~ Jo

We’re now well into the swing of triathlon season and the Tri Energy Crew are racing across a range of swimming, biking and running events….it’s hard work keeping up with them all! Which is one the reasons this blog is a little late – but we’re delighted to announce that our May athlete of the month is Jo Martindale. Jo has done a number of running courses with us and has now branched out into swim courses, cycling and triathlons! We’re so proud of Jo and all of her efforts and hope her story persuades others to get involved in multisport too! We asked Jo a few questions to sum up her journey so far:

How did you first get involved with Tri Energy? 

I first got involved by joining the Runfit group C25K in May last year.

You’ve been doing runfit, swimfit and the perdiswell sessions. which has been your fave? 

I do really enjoy all of them but have really enjoyed swimfit.  I love the fact I’ve learnt to front crawl.

What’s your best achievement to date? 

Having the courage to walk through the door on my own to my first Runfit group.

You took on (&completed!) the Clock Tower Aquathlon last Sunday, how was that?

It was my first event I’d put myself forward for.  I was nervous but also determined I was going to do it.  I loved being part of it and really proud of myself.  I heard lots of people encouraging me which was brilliant.

You’ve also helped marshal at some Tri energy Events.

Yes I’ve really enjoyed marshaling and have been inspired by the people taking part in the events.  This has encouraged me to have a go myself.

What motivates you to keep going? 

I have two young daughters, I want to be the best I can and being a member of  Tri Energy enables me to do that.

Tell us about the support you’ve had so far on your journey. 

There is just so much support and encouragement, fantastic coaches out in all weathers full of encouragement, tips and feedback.  So many lovely people who are members too.  I’ve made lovely friends and we support each other.

Finally….what advice would you give to anyone wanting to take on swimming, cycling and running?  There is something lovely about saying ‘I did it’ so definitely ‘do it’.
Since this Q&A Jo has gone on to complete the Go Tri Event at Perdiswell on Saturday. A huge well done Jo….we can’t wait to see what’s next!
